How to Choose the Right Surveillance Camera System for Your Project
An effective surveillance camera system does not start with choosing the highest camera resolution, but with defining the purpose of the surveillance. A camera used to monitor a public area differs from an entrance camera that needs to identify people, and both differ from a parking camera or one dedicated to reading vehicle license plates.
The site area, lighting conditions, viewing angles, distances, indoor and outdoor locations and the required level of detail must all be studied. After that, the camera type, lens, resolution, night-vision features and smart analytics suitable for each area are selected, instead of using a single model for all locations.
The back end of the system must also be designed carefully, including the network, switches, storage, recording devices and the recording retention period. Increasing the number of cameras or their resolution directly affects Bandwidth, storage space and the capacity of recording and processing devices.
That is why the best CCTV system is not the one with the most cameras, but the one that delivers correct coverage, usable images, reliable recording and easy management. Design starts from the layout and the security objective of each area, and then the technology and equipment are chosen accordingly.
