What Is an LPR System, and How Does It Work at Residential Compound and Parking Entrances?
LPR (License Plate Recognition) is a system that uses cameras and software to automatically identify and read vehicle license plates. It is widely used at the entrances of residential compounds, car parks and facilities that need to organize vehicle entry and exit.
When a car arrives at the entrance, the LPR camera captures the license plate, analyzes it and compares it with the database. If the vehicle is authorized to enter, the system can send a command to the Barrier Gate to open it automatically, without the need for a card or intervention from a security officer.
The system can create lists of authorized vehicles, manage visitors, log entry and exit times, and link vehicles to users or residential units. It can also be integrated with Access Control and parking management systems for a more integrated solution.
The value of LPR lies in turning a vehicle entrance from a conventional gate into a smart, manageable and documented access point. However, the system's efficiency depends heavily on choosing the right camera and on its location and angle, the lighting, vehicle speed and the correct design of the entry area.
