What Is the Difference Between a Traditional Intercom and an IP Intercom?
The main function of an intercom is to communicate with visitors and control door opening, but the way this function is delivered has evolved significantly. Traditional systems usually rely on dedicated cabling and communication units, while an IP Intercom uses the data network to carry audio, video and information between system devices.
A traditional intercom is simple and can be suitable for some small applications with limited requirements. However, it becomes less flexible when a large number of units is needed, or integration with mobile apps, access control systems and central management.
An IP Intercom offers greater flexibility in expansion and integration, and can support indoor screens, mobile apps, central management and links with other systems depending on the platform used. It can also be integrated into the project's network infrastructure.
A traditional intercom therefore suits simple needs, while an IP Intercom is more suitable for modern, integrated projects. In new projects, early planning of the IP network makes it possible to build a system that is more scalable and easier to develop in the future.
