How to Choose the Right Access Point and Determine the Number of Wi-Fi Points in Your Project
Choosing an Access Point does not depend only on the device's speed or the coverage area stated in the specifications, but on the nature of the project, the number of users and devices, and how the network is used. A Wi-Fi network for a small home is different from one for a hotel, an office or a residential compound with hundreds of users and devices connected at the same time.
When choosing a device, you should study the supported technologies, the expected number of users, network capacity, the required connection speed and the nature of the applications in use. Central network management should also be considered, especially in projects with a large number of access points, so they can be monitored, managed and updated from a single platform.
The number of Wi-Fi points should not be determined by dividing the project area by a fixed coverage figure. Walls, concrete, doors, room layout, the number of users and wireless interference are all factors that affect signal quality. That is why initial locations are set according to the plans, and in important projects a Wireless Site Survey can be carried out to reach a more accurate distribution.
A good wireless network does not mean having the most powerful Access Point, but a correct design and a suitable distribution of devices. The goal is stable coverage, adequate speed and seamless roaming for users across the project, with enough capacity for current use and future expansion.
